I've Failed! :(

So I was looking at Toffee and Sweetpea's little claws right, and I decided to trim the claws down so that they won't scratch me so much. At past 12am in the morning. Cos I'm smart like that.

Well...It went better than the last time. Since they've become more tame now, they kinda not move as much. Also, I find that when I hold the individual paw it's easier. Except! For the toes. See their little feet are kinda hard to get hold of. Also there's all that toe hair in the way obstructing my view.

I accidentally cut the quick on one of Sweetpea and Toffee's toes :'( Toffee especially, because she has so much more toe hair that covers the whole nail. It hasn't stopped bleeding in the past 2 minutes.

I might just cry now. I feel like the worse owner ever. I made them bleed! Poor babies. I've put them back into the cage and according to a few people it'll stop bleeding on it's own and there's not much else to do. I hope it doesn't get infected!!!

Taming the Guinea Pig

Remember in this post when I was trying to tame my babies? Well I think I can safely say that I've succeeded. In less than 3 months I can now get them to sleep when they're just chilling on my lap.

Sleeping place #1:
They love to sleep right next to my forearm. Today I tried having both of them on my lap then I realised that both of them need to be stroked or cuddled next to my forearm in order to settle down or sleep. I am flattered but it was slightly inconvenient cos it left me with no hands. Still! Love it when they sleep on me.

Chillin' place #1:
Occasionally when I put them on my large, soft, tummy, they will run up to my shoulder of chest and just sit there looking out at I don't know what. If I have my hair down, they'll be burrowing under my hair, or just sitting with their heads in it. I don't like to have them sitting there for too long. It'll be horrendous if they jump!

I've been struggling abit on what to write about. It's just so odd and I have no idea what to write about sometimes. I started this blog ages ago just so I could have a place to vent my frustrations and rant about stuff. It's my cyber diary. So now that I have a confidante, and now that I have someone to talk to about random things, sometimes I forget all the interesting things I come up with (don't worry you're not missing much).

Soo yea. Ha. Views on my nail blog has surpassed views on this blog. I'm quite proud of myself. Heehee.

I'm FREEEE

Hey everyone! I'm finally free of my exams. It's such a wonderful feeling even though I'm still sick and stuff.

I haven't been gymming alot, and I haven't been controlling my diet so diet-wise...not so good. However! I went to gym yesterday and I realised I only put on 0.5kg which is pretty good considering I've been reaching out to potato chips and chocolate pretty much on a daily basis.

Next up, the babies are doing great! Sweetpea is such a sweetheart. Toffee is really the more dominant one, so she doesn't seem as dependent on me as Sweetpea. But that's ok. Here's what they look like now:
Sweetpea sometimes sleeps on my chest and Toffee loves to stand on my shoulder and just look at everything. I heard guinea pigs are short sighted though so I cannot imagine what she could be seeing that's so interesting.

Both of them are kinda toilet trained now. About 75% of the poop goes into the litter tray which is brilliant! And Sweetpea refuses to pee on me. Haha. I was sitting down with her while studying and she was just chilling in the folds of my very large shirt when suddenly she started fussing and running around. In spite of giving her a little treat (a tiny piece of apple) she still wouldn't settle. This went on for a good half hour before I put her back into the cage. After which she promptly backed up a few steps and started peeing. Such a good girl ^^

I'm just done cleaning their cage and because both of them have been sitting in their weewee they need a little butt bath. Sweetpea hated it. She also hates that brush that I use.
Again in other news! I rebonded my hair to make my fringe (and my mane) more manageable. I kinda miss my curls. But who knows maybe I would wait till my real hair grows to an acceptable length and cut it really short. Maybe when I've lost enough weight so I don't look like a butch. I wasn't in the best of moods yesterday but let's not get into that.
I also got a new phone! A Samsung Galaxy Ace. Saheed chose it for me, seeing as I have no idea what to choose. There were so many choices! Here is the phone cover which I customised on my own cos I was bored.
That's all I have for today. For the one remaining reader who made it here, you get a prize!
It's a picture of a 3 week old white teddy guinea pig. Her name is Sheepy and she already has an owner. But the sight of her really makes me smile. Look at how fluffy she is!!!

Hurtling towards adulthood

My babies have grown so much! I've been training Sweetpea and Toffee to stand on command and now, I can proudly say that they have learnt how to stand! They need to have a nice juicy treat in front of them to be able to do the trick but still, I don't expect them to run after my fingers trying to eat/lick it.

Toffee has taken in sitting in her own pee. *sigh* It doesn't really cause her alot of harm, but I don't like seeing her tail fur all matted up. So I trimmed her fur at the back-end and give her bum a weekly bath. Surprisingly, she prefers cool water to warm water. Hmm.
My little baby after her weekly bath

I've been trying to feed them as big a variety of vegetables as I can. They'll have at least two kinds of vegetables everyday! Lucky things. Both my little sister and mom commented that the babies lead better lives than us. Ah well what can I say?
An assortment of hay-containers have been tried, including a hay trough, which didn't work. Because the hay trough is so big, the babies are able to jump in and they poop and pee in it. More work for me = bad.
Recently Toffee has taken to sitting in the litter tray looking really round. See the photo below? It's only half as round as how round she looks when she sits there. She literally looks like a little ball with a face. As for Sweetpea, she loves to stretch out along the side of the cage or in a corner and just doze there. They are soo sweet and I love them.
So far I've been pretty busy with exams and have been spending less time with the babies. I feel guilty but I do try to spend quality time with them in the morning when I feed them, when I get back to give them their supper and at night when I tuck them into bed. (Yea, I just put their bed into the cage. I take it out during day time so they have more space to run about in.)

More updates soon! Can't wait till they're all grown up. Heehee. They've been growing so fast it's unbelievable! I always look at the pictures from when I first got them and it's so hard to imagine how far they've come. So proud of myself.

Taming my Babies!

After I got them to eat out of my hand, it was time to pick them up and start having 'cuddle time' as I call it. Basically I pick them up and place them on my lap and pet them. When they're comfortable with that, I moved on to putting them at my table.

And I got them a new toy! It was messy at first, but now it's ok. They're not crazy about it but it's something to entertain them with when I'm away.

They love sitting in the hay when I put fresh hay into the litter tray! It means that I might waste some hay, but at least they're happy :)

Sweetpea on my table. She solved this! Hahahaha. Now they're really tame when they're on the table. Sometimes they can be really hyper and start popcorning on my table, exploring all the nooks and crannies. But sometimes they'll settle down and start cooing or looking sleepy. I love it when that happens.

And here they are starting to explore. They're so adorable! I get my daily overdose of cuteness from them. Heehee!

Progress!

Don't they look so cute just sitting there? At first they won't come out of the sleeping bag, so according to the suggestion from the seller, I took away all the shelters except for the one above the toilet during the day so they will get used to the open-ness and also be encouraged to use the litter tray.

I must say first day is pretty successful? They basically didn't really poop anywhere except around the hay dish and in the litter tray. As for pee, I can't really see but I do know they peed at the side of the hay dish. (because I accidentally touched it when clearing poo for them)
Also I got Sweetpea to put a paw onto my hand when eating. I find the she loves apples alot more than carrots. I have been trying to feed them carrots (which are what they're used to), caixin (a local green leafy vegetable), peppers and apples. Sweetpea adores apples. She's a more adventurous eater. She tried the caixin but wasn't too keen. I guess it's too bitter for her?

I have decided to name the brown one Toffee. She is more tolerant when I pet her, but somehow she won't eat from my hand today. She seems to only accept food from me at night, and Sweetpea accepts food from me during the day.

After I got Sweetpea to eat from my hand I tried to pick her up and pet her, after which she started to struggle. I put her down immediately and she was really frightened and won't take food from me again. I feel so bad! Have to try again tomorrow. *sigh*

After I took the shelters away, this is basically where they stayed the whole day sorta. I hope they're not plotting to escape.

Babies are here!!

My babies are here! Aren't you so excited! I sure am! The people who brought them here were to nice, they came and they help me to set up the cage, everything! She even taught me how to look after them and told me how much to feed them and stuff :)

This is Sweetpea, she ran into the bumblebee sleeping bag thing. I took her out eventually because Brownie (her temporary name till Saheed names her) looked really lonely just sitting in the cube.

See how lonely Brownie looks? She's much more friendly (or more tolerant of what I do). But when Sweetpea left, she was just sitting there not moving for AGES.

Both of them abit earlier, Sweetpea seems to like sitting in the hay dish. Ah well. Little joys. It must be comfortable.

So now, this is kinda what they're doing. I think they're tired. I'll continue making friends with them tomorrow heehee.
I love them so much. They're simply adorable.

Guinea Pigs' Cage!

The view of the whole cage. Doesn't it look adorable! Check out the furry bed on the inside of the cube. I love the colours, it just makes the whole cage so vibrant! All I need to do now is lay down the bedding and put up the grid for the water bottle.

Here is the litter tray and their little dishes. The shapes of the dishes are so cute aren't they? I'm planning on toilet training the babies, so wish me luck!

Their little beds! See the furry bed? You can flip it inside out and you can have a 'cool' side for the guinea pigs so they don't get overheated! I will have to buy another one and extend the cube when they get bigger.
I can't wait for my guinea pigs to come tomorrow! This is all so exciting I shall take pictures of them and put it up. Also I will be working on the drainage container. Think I shall paint it in a really cute way. It feels like I'm somehow making up for all the lost time of being a little girl.
