PUPS! (among other things)

Nanny has gotten two Yorkshire Terrier puppies about two-three weeks ago. These are the videos that I took whenever they first came. There are so many so I'm just going to slowly post a few at a time for your enjoyment. Here are some photos of the puppies first.I actually wanted to post on the 10th of June. Which will be the 1st anniversary where I stepped on this place. But due to time constraints and unexpected situations, (eg. looking at the pups :P) I wasn't able to do a complete post about it. That's ok though, I can still do a few sentences about this one. Here goes:

The first time I stepped off the plane onto Northern Ireland, the 1st thing that hit me was the cold. I eventually got used to that though. What has changed from then and now? Perhaps I have gotten more mature over the year *snicker*. And also due to the unexpected generousity from the family here, I have become the proud owner of a considerable amount of material possessions and soft toys.

I think that is it. By the way, remember whenever I was telling you about making a card for Father's Day? I made one for my dad and this is the result (idea is taken from moonpig.com) :Here are the puppy videos:

No matter how cute the puppies are, I'm pretty sure of one thing. The cats are not amused.

"Like dogs in a wheel, birds in a cage, or squirrels in a chain, ambitious men still climb and climb, with great labor, and incessant anxiety, but never reach the top."- Robert Browning (English poet and playwright whose mastery of dramatic verse, especially dramatic monologues, made him one of the foremost Victorian poets)

More pups

Here are a few puppy videos for you to enjoy.

By the way, I have started my swimming lessons already and I had my second swimming lesson last Thursday. It was quite fun and I felt more comfortable. And guess what? I managed to float while holding on to the sides. Sort of like, I hold on to the side of the pool with my hands, and stretch my body out and move my legs to keep my legs afloat. Jordan says it's not really floating but still, it's a start. :)

Here is one of the poems by Maya Angelou, I think it's pretty good:

Still I Rise

By Maya Angelou

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you bese
t with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a su
rprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise

Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise

I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise

Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise

Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and t
he hope of the slave.
I rise

I rise
I rise.

I was tagged by Zhi Yu.

Various Things

Guess what everyone?! I got my swimsuit on Thursday! This is so exciting. I am now all ready to start learning to swim :) I'm going to start next Friday. That is, the 13th (yes yes, I know it's Friday the 13th but still).

I can tell you going into a shop that sells just women's lingerie and swimsuits was REAL intimidating. BUT! That shop lady was nice. And even though I can't see anything that would actually fit over my great bum, she gave me lots and lots of tankinis (something like sleeveless top with pants) and one pieces. So, I went in and tried on every single one, eying myself up and down critically after every piece I try on. That was no easy feat, considering a few of the one pieces WERE too small for me *embarrassed*. And the tankinis weren't going too well either, but on the second round, the heavens opened up and light came shining down. For I have found The Suit. The only one which I think I could actually wear and then walk about with. It helps that it's a more fashionable tankini and that it's in a yellow color with nice detail on it. 'Cos there was another less appealing one which was an all black one piece. So I took both out, present my two chosen choices and made Auntie Carol choose for me (I have to learn how to make choices for myself). I was hoping she'll choose the yellow tankini, 'cos whenever I presented my choices, it hit me that I have seen grannies walking about the beach in those in good weather.

So all in all, after lots and lots of shimmying into things too small, hoping that they wouldn't burst on me, 12 (TWELVE!) different swimsuits, and a real tough (not) decision later, I walked out of the shop, the proud owner of a new yellow swimsuit. I did take a photo (of just the swimsuit) but decided not to put it up.

AND! Guess what? Ryan's an uncle! Yes! Oliver Charles James Hughes was born at 8.49pm in a hospital in Dublin on the 5th June 2008, weighing at 8 pounds 1 ounces. He's a big baby. Ryan went over to visit his new nephew and his sister in Dublin yesterday and sent me a few picture messages of him. Oliver's so cute! ^_^ Shall post photos up once i get permission from Ryan and his sister.

So..I think that's all for today. Made quite a few cards lately. But because not all of them are sent to the recipients yet, I'll have to wait for quite a while before posting up photos of the cards as well as giving a few tips as to how to make them. One of the tips is to go to a card website. I go to moonpig.com for some inspiration whenever I run out of ideas. You don't have to buy them. Just go there and choose what you would like to draw or insert in the card you're making. There are a few Father's Day ones now that Father's Day is coming up. So surprise your dad with a hand-made yet witty card on Father's Day!

The Pleasures Of Being A Student

Myra is happy 'cos her exams are (coincidentally) over too.

YES!! Finally, I'm free. Free to do what I want, free from studying. All of the students out there reading this can only imagine how I'm feeling now. From today to the 1st of September, I am free to do (within reason) all that I want!

Yesterday was the day of my last paper for my ASs (halfway between 'O' Level and 'A' Level). First exam of the day was C2 Maths. Wasn't too bad. I knew how to do all of the questions and I even had time to do all of them out again. So I can be expecting really good results from that. Then I had about two hours to wait for my next exam which was Health and Social Care.

Was running about trying to look for teachers to return the books to, and I managed to do that for all except for my Maths textbooks 'cos my teacher wasn't even in. -.- By then, I was so annoyed and flustered ('cos it was a really warm day) I just went to the Staff Room to look for all of my teachers at once. That worked really well I must say. And I have to give Ryan credit for that, 'cos it was his idea.

Then finally, I went down to the trees for my much needed break. Sat there for a few minutes and read through my Health and Social Care notes in the sun. (Note to self: Studying in the sun with friends is so fun it shouldn't be called studying)

People eventually felt hungry and so me, Ryan and Claire headed down to Subway for our lunch. Some other people just went to the bakery and sat in "cos it's cold!" :p

Yepz, so lunch was pretty good. I got my Subway with teriyaki chicken, peppered cheese and pepperoni, with pickles, olives and lettuce, topped with barbecue sauce. It wasn't too bad, just the chicken tasted a wee bit off. And that didn't exactly help my gassy stomach. Oh well.

Then after eating our lunch, Claire and Parky headed off to the Down Center to look around. And me and Ryan just sat there under the tree. Then this rough looking guy (tattoos and all) came shouting on the phone and his dog (a Boxer) was running behind him, nose on the ground. The Boxer was sniffing around us and then it spotted something Great And Interesting to it's doggy nose-Parky's lunch. It was Parky's sandwich wrapped up in aluminum foil just sitting on his file. We just ignored the dog until the dog started to nudge the package. Then I stood up over the dog just waiting for it to jump on me. But the dog cowered down, looked up at me and ran away. Looking back, I wouldn't be surprised if his owner stood over him and beat him. 'Cos the dog was actually scared of me. Poor thing.

For those who don't know what Boxers look like, here's a picture (the dog actually looked exactly like that):Now you know why I was waiting for it to pounce at my throat in a fit of mad rage. So, not long after Boxer ran away, Parky and Claire walked back and me and Ryan decided not to let Parky know that his lunch was nudged by a dog. But apparently, Parky saw it all, and after seeing that the aluminum foil was actually untouched, he ate his lunch. It was funny though :P

Took pictures (the other couple in the picture is Claire and Parky):Then we went over to the small hill where there is more sun. took pictures again, just sat about in the sun trying not to sleep (for me anyway).

Took even more pictures:And then went off for the exam. It wasn't too bad, but the time passed really fast which is a good thing I guess. But then it was a most painful process 'cos my hand was cramping up and it was so painful to write. Our invigilator was Parky's dad. And he was telling us the time again and again and telling us to at least roughly answer all the questions. I think Parky had a part in it. So I asked him, and he did tell his dad that the Health and Social Care exam has a really tight timing. That explains the unusual helpfulness from the invigilator. Still, it was nice to have a friendly invigilator.

That was just about my day. After I came home I basically had dinner, and then slept for four hours because I slept badly the night before.

I'm just so happy to be free. Now all I have to do is wait for the fruits of my labor.

P.S. There is another post below.

Dragon Boating (on Sunday)

On Sunday, I was awakened at 8.30am to go to a dragon boating race in Belfast with Uncle Paul and Jordan. Wasn't too bad. Just really tired and a wee bit cranky with the early morning. Jordan was considerably more cranky than I was. But he eventually loosened up.

SO! While we were driving, Jordan sat at the back 'cos he wanted to sleep. And This was what he had sitting beside him on the drive.Yes. It's Crazy Frog back in town! Uncle Paul won it at the claw machines. You know the ones where you put in like say..a dollar/pound and then move the claw to pick it up? Ya. We've now got three Crazy Frogs at home including the big one. At least this big one is silent, unlike the other two little ones. For the two little ones you press their tummy and they'll play a few second clip from different Crazy Frog songs. Those which you get tired of and annoyed at after about 10 presses of the tummy.

Got a wee bit bored while waiting in the car. And took this picture. Then we reached there and took these while doing a little more waiting..Finally went in after having a sticker to prove that I'm a spectator. (the sticker is that little red thing on the top right hand side of my shirt)This was what greeted my eyes.People, your eyes are not deceiving you. It is truly guys wearing shell and coconut bras. Of course, there are girls who are wearing shell and coconut bras too but there is nothing like a little cross dressing early in the morning to make you laugh and make your day. Here is a closer look at them. Then comes the lion dance troops and even more people. Pictures, the close ups of the lions are really pixelly 'cos I had zoomed in on them, and then zoomed in even more on the camera and trimmed it.Took a video of the lions as well :)

Then after that, me and a few other people went to the bridge to wait for Uncle Paul and Jordan to come up in the boat. The place was really nice, nice scenery and such. And we saw a person sunbathing on her balcony with her foot sticking out. Gave us quite a shock. We thought she might be dead until we saw the arms moving :P

Here are the pictures of the surroundingsPicture of The FootThen finally the dragon boats made an appearance. I don't know about you, but to my eyes, the dragon boats look a bit sparse. How come the dragon heads so small?Video of the opposition team overtaking Uncle Paul and Jordan's boat. "Noooo!"
Their opposition team was called 'Chinese Women's Group' but there were only two women on the boat. The rest were men. Go figure.

Then went to the railway station, (I didn't know there was a railway station in Belfast) and because I didn't want to take a photo of the whole outside of the railway station (or I'll look like a tourist), I took a photo of the inside of the toilet instead:See? So clean. ^_^ (the green bag is the Uncle Paul's shoes)

Then waited for a moment, and went to Castlecourt. Went there to meet up with a few other people from the youth group. And then took a picture while waiting. And then, we got Candy!! :DAnd into a restaurant we go. They still use the glass Coke bottles. Teehee. Glass Coke bottles are quite inconvenient 'cos you have to drink it all at one go but still, they look nice.More pictures of the restaurant. Then this came:That was dessert and bearing in mind that most of the people there are Asian, I can't actually understand why their tastes are so Westernized. And none of the younger people ate it. Only about four people ate it (including me).

After our lunch (or tea), headed home, and this time I sat in the back seat. Guess who was my companion?Yepz yepz. You're just right.
